Melbourne muso Oliver Sol is cementing his place as one of the most exciting players on the Australian music scene, today unveiling new single ‘How Did You Know’, a swag-laden collaboration with Canberra-raised MC Citizen Kay.
Pulsating with ’80s swagger, thumping bass, wailing synths and soulful vocals, the track takes inspiration from the relationship between fan and artist, a relationship that is at once deeply personal and totally distant.
“That deep connection that you have with your favourite artist/album or song is something that can’t really be described in words and has always fascinated me,” explains Sol. “Add to that the thought that every other fan has their own alternate, equally personal take on it. For me it’s astounding. The flip side to all that is that I want to know how it’s done.”
The track features a spit-fire verse from Citizen Kay that came about after a fortuitous encounter at an Illy show. “After seeing CK’s set and the way his flow is so effortless, I knew he would be the perfect choice to get on the track,” says Sol. “At the end of the night, I went up to him, introduced myself and told him what I thought of his style and we went from there. Once I got his verse back, I was blown away.”
‘How Did You Know’ will feature on Oliver Sol’s forthcoming EP, due for release this September. Sol will be throwing an official warehouse launch party in Melbourne for ‘How Did You Know’ on Saturday March 18th at a secret location. Head here for ticket details.
