PREMIERE: Solomon Crook Confronts His Demons In Captivating Video For ‘The Day I Thought About Dying’

Solomon Crook is a 21-year-old New Zealand musician with a big voice and big feelings, ones he is unafraid to lay out on the table, or rather the alter, in the striking video for his powerful new single ‘The Day I Thought About Dying’.

The captivating clip – directed by Oscar Keys and made in collaboration with choreographer Raquel Abolins-Reid – takes place inside a Greek Orthodox Church church, its walls adorned with liturgical frescos and lined with golden light fixtures, as a red cloth-laden Crook is enveloped by dark figures, representative of his darkest thoughts.

“This song explores the uncontrollable feelings of loneliness and isolation that we can all face,” says Solomon. “I wrote this song in a time when I was feeling separated from people I should have felt closest to. I felt this need to escape and break free of this helpless feeling but not knowing how. This song is me internalising these feelings and thoughts, reflecting on them and trying to understand them.”

Though dealing with themes of isolation and darkness, the clip too offers a way through the black cloud as Solomon escapes his demons.

“The filming of the music video was a such a special experience – the collaboration that was shared throughout the whole process allowed for a common vision of what we all wanted to achieve, explains the artist. “Oscar’s original narrative and concept beautifully supports the lyrical content within the song, whilst giving it a hopeful sentiment that you can break through these feelings of darkness, like the figures in the video. I couldn’t be more grateful to work with such creative and expressive friends.”

Expect more to come Solomon Crook soon as plans are underway for a second EP in 2020. In the meantime though, allow your senses to be captivated by ‘The Day I Thought About Dying’ here below.
