51st Avenue – ‘The Dark’
“We had an awesome time shooting this video,” the band explains in a press statement. “We found a hedge maze out in the middle of no-where. Since the song is titled ‘The Dark’ we thought it was appropriate to shoot at night. This proved a little difficult as it was completely dark and we had to leave a trail of lights in order to find our way out of the maze.”
They continue: “When we were wrapping at the end of the night we did get lost and it took us a few minutes to find our way out but it was all part of the experience. This music video only features Aly as we wanted the focus to be on the story of her being trapped in the maze. Overall, it was a great experience!!”
On the topic of the song itself, Zizza adds: “I think I felt a bit lyrically messy with this one, really in my head. We just get into situations where our backs are against the wall and there’s very little choice on our part but the choice made will still have a huge effect. Like you’re stuck in the middle and it’s too hard to make the right decision because that will still have collateral damage.”
She continues: “Essentially, all roads lead to ‘The Dark’. I wanted to show that one sided dialogue of justifying and pleading all in one. I think we’ve all been there and I think we forget that as much as people are out there judging those choices, there are those who’d understand if they knew what was up.”
51st Avenue is made up of Zizza, plus guitarist Ashley Biar, drummer Scott Gerrard and new bassist, Anthony Carollo, who together have carved out a niche for themselves in the Australian alternative scene with their intoxicating meld of electronic-pop and heavy rock.
