Strum A Note Up In The Wires: Them Swoops – Sound of Summer

Strum a Note and I are back after a wee break, ready and raring to go, so super excited to get stuck into a new year full of summer festivals, cool new tunes, many a Sunday sesh…ah summer in Melbourne ay!

Musically 2012 is starting off with a bang for me with a bunch of Big Day Out side shows coming up and local and interstate festivals on the horizon. Bring on the new year! And what better way to start 2012 than lazying on St Kilda beach, iPod in hand (space of which is now full, oh the pain!) listening to the breezy, summery sounds of Them Swoops.

These guys are freaking awesome and no doubt a lot of you cherubs reading this will know exactly who I’m talking about and are thinking: “Um, the Them Swoops secret came out a long time ago. Old news”. I don’t care. I love them and will keep telling everyone about them until I get annoying and they get super famous.

Them Swoops are Melbourne boys Dave McGann vocalist and guitarist, Adam Hengstberger on skins and Chris Goff smooth on bass. I can only describe their sound as that of summer: it’s breezy and upbeat with seriously infectious guitar and vocals, giving off a relaxed vibe overall and truly is catchy as all hell.

The band are supporting Foxx on Fire at their ‘March into the Sun’ EP launch and last gig in Melbourne before heading to the UK, along with Jimmy Hawk & The Endless Party at the Buffalo Club in Melbourne on 21 January. Be sure to head down and check them out if you’re in town, you definitely won’t be disappointed with a line up like that.

Them Swoops are expected to have their own EP out this year so stay tuned!
