Just last week, Vera Blue announced a national tour and teased a 40 second clip of her new single ‘The Way That You Love Me’. Today, we have the new single in full and honestly, what a tune to kick off your Friday with.
The new track is super different for Vera Blue. It has a rushed tempo and an upbeat sound that’s juxtaposed by dark lyrics. ‘The Way That You Love Me’ was co-written and produced by previous Vera Blue collaborators, Andy and Thom Mak.
Of the track, Andy Mak said, “Emotionally we wanted to create a sense of tension and unease, like something isn’t quite right in the world.
“It felt right to support that with tough beats, dark synths, choirs… You know, all the emotional stuff! And then Celia gave the vocal performance of a lifetime in the chorus and at that point nothing really matters except her voice… Her honesty and authenticity is what pulls you in, every time.”
Vera Blue says the track is the start of “a new chapter, a new phase, and a new story line.”
“A fresh concept and sound inspired by the experiences and behaviours of loving relationships of people coming in and out of my life. A kind of love that can be taken advantage of or returned in ways that might be difficult to understand at the time.”
Vera’s ‘The Way That You Love Me’ National Tour kicks off in August at Snowtunes Festival, before heading all around Australia with Alex The Astronaut. Check out the dates here.
