Social media platform TikTok is planning to file a lawsuit against US president Donald Trump. Give me strength.
The platform is filing the suit in response to Trump’s executive order prohibiting American companies from having business with the platform and its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.
In a statement, reps for the platform said that they’ve been trying to work things out with the president for almost a year now, but nothing has been achieved due to “lack of due process.” Sounds strange for Trump, hmm.
They also said that the Trump administration “pays no attention to facts.” Also out of character for Trump.
“To ensure that the rule of law is not discarded and that our company and users are treated fairly,” a spokesperson for the company said, via ABC, “we have no choice but to challenge the executive order through the judicial system.”
According to BBC, Trump claims that the app can be used to “track the locations of federal employees, collect information for use in blackmail, or spy on companies.”
“(It) threatens the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” Trump said.
“This data collection threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information.”
TikTok claims that it has never handed any US data to Chinese authorities.
