A 2014 clipping. Song May Have Predicted 2020’s Chaos In A Single Lyric

LA hip-hop group clipping. may be giving Matt Groening and The Simpsons a run for their money, as a lyric from a 2014 song of theirs may have predicted some of 2020’s most notable events.

The song in question? ‘Summertime’ featuring King T, taken from the band’s debut album CLPPNG, which dropped in 2014. The lyric, from member Daveed Diggs’ verse, reads as follows:

Donuts in the cul-de-sac, photos at the intersection / Show ’em that Corona’s back, flipping off the pigs and / Breaking mirrors cause he own it jack.

“Show ’em that Corona’s back”

“Flipping off the pigs”

It could be a coincidence, but it also…could not. The fact that one line of a song mentions both the word ‘Corona’ and anti-police mentality – when that is exactly what the world is consumed with right now – seems too spooky to be true.

Or we’re reading into it too much. Whatever.

This was first brought to attention by Twitter user @myadyth. The group then alluded to the idea that might be able to read the future in a tweet when the lyric was brought to their attention, saying “we never said which summer the song was about.”

The group had a surge of widespread popularity in Australia off the back of their aforementioned debut album thanks to their track ‘Work Work’ with Cocc Pistol Cree. The song charted at #66 on triple j‘s Hottest 100 in 2014.
