Here’s one we didn’t see coming: Klaxons, Little Boots and ABBA all in the same sentence.
By now, most of the pop-loving world has calmed down after the Swedish icons announced their huge comeback (we’re talking new music and innovative ‘Voyage’ virtual/live show series). Now, more information has been revealed about how ABBA Voyage is coming together.
While ABBA themselves will be performing as virtual ‘ABBAtars’, there will be a 10 piece live band performing during the concert series in May 2022.
Running through a 22 song strong set list, the band has been formed by ABBA’s Benny and Bjorn, with additional help from Klaxons frontman James Righton.
Righton, who shared his insights into the process on Instagram, has assured fans that ABBA’s music is in more than capable hands, when it came to this band.
“I had an incredible/fun/magical/surreal time helping Benny and Bjorn find the 10-piece band for the reunion,” he wrote.
“I can safely say that the musicians chosen and the band that has been formed is the best group of musicians I’ve ever heard play together in a room. There is serious chemistry and vibe.”
Also appearing in the live lineup is fellow ’00s indie artist, Little Boots.
“As a life long @abba fan It is an absolute honour to share that I will be joining @abbavoyage live on stage on keyboards/ synthesisers and backing vocals.” she wrote on Instagram.
“My love for the songs of ABBA runs hard and deep, there is no other songwriting I have been more inspired by throughout my career, in my opinion it is the most life-affirming, heart wrenching, joyful, liberating, powerful pop music on the planet.”
The mammoth ABBA Voyage series will be opening at the state of the art ‘ABBA Arena’ at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London next year. The 3,000 capacity venue will become home for the band (and ‘ABBAtars’) for the production headed up by Industrial Light & Magic; the George Lucas-founded company best known for their work in film.
