Adele, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots & More Collide In Bizarrely Emotional Mashup

Mashups are, generally speaking, hilarious.

The internet is a veritable minefield of rip-snorting musical couplings, such as this dynamite combo of the Thomas The Tank Engine theme with Limp Bizkit’s Breakstuff or this wondrous arrangement of Katy Perry’s California Gurls with Avenged Sevenfold’s Bat Country.

Much of a mashup’s hilarity stems from the surprise we get when two incredibly different pieces of music end up working perfectly, when slapped together.

But although this new mashup from DJ Cummerbund works ridiculously well, it won’t make you laugh. Instead, the results are somewhat creepy and bizarrely… emotional?

The producer has taken Adele‘s monster hit Hello and engineered it together with an assortment of songs from deceased grunge icons, such as Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit (in which the lyric “Hello” also features heavily), Alice In Chains’ Would and Stone Temple PilotsSex Type Thing.

The result is a weird kind of Adele-meets-fallen-grunge-icons type thing which makes Cobain, Weiland and Staley sound a whole lot sadder, while Adele gets a little bit more of an edge.

There’s also a weird rap cameo by Randy Macho Man Savage (but it’s probably best that we all ignore that).

Give it a listen, below.
