Alice Cooper Drops Details Of All-Star Supergroup’s Monster New Album

The official roll call for the new Hollywood Vampires album does not, ahem, suck.

Sir Paul McCartney, Johnny Depp, Slash and more will feature on the debut album from the Alice Cooper-led supergroup.

The all-star project, which was kickstarted by Cooper, Depp and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, was originally formed as a tribute to the shock rocker’s former 1970’s drinking crew, also called The Hollywood Vampires, many of whom have since passed away.

And while we already new their debut album would be packing some pretty impressive cameos, the full list reads like rock n’ roll’s version of The Avengers (except saggier and with more eyeliner).

Joining core members Cooper, Captain Jack Sparrow and Perry will be Beatles legend Sir Paul as well as Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey, together with guitar icon Slash, Foo Fighters champ Dave Grohl, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell, Eagles legend Joe Walsh, The Doors’ Robby Krieger, Winger’s Kip Winger and late heavy metal Sith lord, Sir Christopher Lee.

Though the 14-track LP will be composed mostly covers, there are a few originals included, such as Raise the Dead and Dead Drunk Friends, which were co-written by Depp, Cooper and producer Bob Ezrin.

Chatting with Music Feeds earlier this year, Alice gave us a bit of background about how the project came about.

“I had a drinking club called the Hollywood Vampires in Los Angeles in 1972 to ’73,” he explained. “And every single night it was Harry Nilsson and Keith Moon, and when John Lennon was in town it was him. And it was all the guys that drank… It was sort of a drinking club.

“Well, I watched all of those guys die. I mean, every single one of ’em, except for John, died from drinking or drugs or whatever it was. So we decided I wanted to do an album, a covers album. I’ve never done a covers album. And I decided that I wanted to do an album that was dedicated to my dead, drunk friends.”

All proceeds from the sales of the album will be donated to the musician’s charity, MusiCares.

The Hollywood Vampires’ self-titled debut is due for release on Friday, 11th September. Check out the official album teaser, tracklisting and contributions, below.
