Kiwi musician Anna Coddington has finally made a return by releasing a new album ‘Te Whakamiha’ after being “busy” for about 18 months without releasing any music.
Anna said the following about her new album “It just felt like the right time to try and reach for that sound, cause I’ve got a great band – we have an awesome time together, it’s so much fun… it just felt like a good time to make a fun album.”
Her new album ‘Te Whakamiha’ is a bilingual type of work in the languages te reo Māori & English, which has been described by the artist generally as “Māori funk”. The album consists of a total of eight tracks which are Prince-inspired funk, and give R&B and disco vibes. The whole album ‘Te Whakamiha’ is an album in which Anna has featured te reo Māori for the very first time in her career.
Anna Coddington – ‘Te Whakamiha’
The album has been created with immense love by Anna Coddington along with the band The Appreciations (Jol Mulholland, Mike Hall and Fen Ikner).
The title of the album ‘Te Whakamiha’ has been decided by roughly translating the name of Coddington’s long time musical group called, The Appreciations. The name also has been used to show gratitude to the dual journey of Anna Coddington in both music and in te reo Māori.
