UPDATE: Australia’s 2018 Eurovision Contestant Announced
ORIGINAL STORY: Australia has reaffirmed its status as an important part of Europe, today confirming its spot on the lineup for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.
As TV Tonight reports, Australia is set to make its fourth appearance in the annual music bash in Lisbon, Portugal in May, with hopes for another Top 10 result after the success of Guy Sebastian, Dami Im and Isaiah Firebrace.
It’s lucky that Australia has even been invited back next year, given all the controversy from that streaker wearing an Aussie flag who interrupted this year’s event — and ISN’T EVEN ACTUALLY AUSSIE.
Australia’s Head of Delegation for Eurovision, Paul Clarke, tells TV Tonight: “It’s wonderful that we’re back! In the three years that we have competed in Eurovision we have achieved huge success, ranking second in the results overall behind Sweden.
“It’s an exciting challenge for us to find a competitor who can fly the flag high for Australia, and we can’t wait to begin that search.”
SBS commentators Myf Warhurst & Joel Creasey will also reportedly be returning to host the Eurovision broadcast for Aussie viewers.
Meanwhile, Eurovision is also launching a new Eurovision Asia competition next year, but it’s still unclear if Australia will participate — come on, how can we be both a part of Europe and a part of Asia?
