Spotify has revealed the artists we streamed the most in 2017 and it’s probably not going to surprise you at all.
The platform has revealed that Ed Sheeran ruled the year, accumulating the most streams both in Australia and globally. He managed 47 million monthly listeners off the back of his third record Divide with ‘Shape Of You’ also claiming the title for the most streamed song ever on the platform.
Drake, Kendrick Lamar, The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd rounded out the most streamed artist list in Australia while Taylor Swift was the most streamed female despite only releasing her latest album reputation on the platform last week.
On the local front, Aussies were streaming a heap of Flume and Sia which is somewhat unsurprising. Sia just completed a stadium tour of the country while Flume is about to headline Falls Festival.
Newcomer Starley had the most streamed local track with the Ryan Riback remix of ‘Call On Me’. It also helped her become the second most streamed Australian female of 2017.
On the global front, hip-hop proved to be the fastest rising genre, increasing in popularity by 74 per cent from last year. Big releases by Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B and Migos no doubt helped that.
