Beck Says He’s No Longer A Scientologist In New Interview

Beck has long been one of the most prominent names in music one associates with the controversial Church of Scientology. However, in a new interview, the alt-rocker has confirmed he is no longer a member.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald last Friday (22nd November), Beck explained, “I think there’s a misconception that I am a Scientologist. I’m not a Scientologist. I don’t have any connection or affiliation with it.”

“My father has been a Scientologist for a long time, but I’ve pretty much just focused on my music and my work for most of my life, and tended to do my own thing,” he added. “I think it’s just something people ran with.”

Beck’s association with the Church dates back to around 2005. As The Hollywood Reporter points out, the musician stated in an interview at the time “Yeah, I’m a Scientologist. My father has been a Scientologist for about 35 years, so I grew up in and around it.”

Beck’s new album Hyperspace is out now.
