Get ready to shred some celebratory air guitar, because in some most excellent news, it would appear a fourth movie in the Bill & Ted franchise is currently in the pipeline.
Actor Alex Winter, who plays Bill S. Preston Esquire in the recently-revived 80’s metal film franchise (alongside Keanu Reeves as ‘Ted’ Theodore Logan), has confirmed Bill & Ted 4 is currently in the early stages of development. After first giving life to the titular characters in 1989, Winter and Reeves returned for two sequels, the most recent of which, Bill & Ted Face the Music, hit cinemas in 2020.

During a recent interview on the Sarah O’Connell Show, Winter confirmed that the original writers are making progress on the story for a potential fourth film, with a script to follow soon.
“We’re tinkering with a fourth movie idea that all of us like, and the guys are going to write, so we’ll see,” the actor said. “It takes us time to get these things going, and we never want to do them unless they’re great.”
He continued: “They feel the same way, it has to be right. We love [the Bill & Ted movies] because they’re oddball, and they’re not typical mainstream films. They’ve never been cash-grab movies; no one has gotten rich off the Bill and Ted series. We really do make them sincerely from a place of love and interest.”
Winter went on to stress that a potential fourth excellent adventure in the film franchise is still far from getting the green light, but strange things are afoot.
“There’s a really good idea that the writers came up with for a fourth that’s kind of obvious,” he said. “I don’t want to give it away – I can’t give it away because I would be drawn and quartered – but it is a really great idea, kind of an obvious idea. It will get written, and we’ll see if we can actually get it made. It may be a little while.”
Meanwhile, metal movie buffs will have less of a wait for the forthcoming sequel to fellow 80’s cult classic This Is Spinal Tap, which is due to start filming this year, 40 years after the original, with the OG cast and crew all involved.
