Billie Eilish rejigged her 2021 single ‘Happier Than Ever’ for a performance on the long-running children’s TV show Sesame Street.
Eilish updated the lyrics so that ‘Happier Than Ever’ became a numerical-focused song. For instance, the opening lyric, “When I’m away from you, I’m happier than ever,” became “When I’m counting with you, I’m happier than ever.” The Count then chimed in: “Numbers sound so much better.” The chemistry between the pair was palpable.
The next line, “Give me a day or two, to think of something clever,” was replaced with “Come on let’s count to two, one-two of Bert’s sweaters.” On cue, Bert appeared, shivering, as the Count held up two of his sweaters. Elmo made a minor cameo later in the song. The whole thing is a delight and well worth the two minutes it takes to watch.
The teaser clip arrives ahead of season 52 of Sesame Street. Eilish’s full episode is scheduled for June 2022. The new season, which launches this Thursday, 11th November, will feature various other guest stars Kacey Musgraves, Anderson .Paak and poet Amanda Gorman.
‘Happier Than Ever’ is the title track from Eilish’s second and most recent album, which came out at the end of July, 2021. Eilish will tour Australia in September, 2022.
