Bloc Party Announce ‘Nextwave Sessions’ EP & Premiere New Song ‘Ratchet’

UK indie crooners Bloc Party have announced they will be releasing their brand new EP Nextwave Sessions this August, and have fired first warning shot Ratchet over the airwaves on BBC Radio 1, courtesy of Zane Lowe.

Nextwave Sessions was pieced together on the road as the band supported Four all over the planet. The EP will contain 5 brand-new tunes and is set for release in the UK on 12th August. Ratchet has been crowned as the maiden single from the release, with an official video clip now making its way online (below).

If you feel as though you’re getting some deja vu right now, it’s totally understandable. It’s been less than 12 months since the band released their latest new material, their full-length effort Four, so this EP will be out before the dust has time to settle on the album.

Bloc Party have also stated that they’ll be going into self-imposed hiatus after their appearance at Latitude Festival next month. Guitarist Russell Lissack told Postmedia News, “Definitely after we finish the festivals in the summer we’ll be taking some time off. At least six months, maybe a year, maybe two years, it’s hard to say.” No time frame has been set for their return.
