Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon Once Had An Agrument With Kanye About What ‘Humble’ Means

Humble and Kanye are not two things you associate with each other, although he was able to teach Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon a thing or two about what the word actually means.

Speaking with the New York Times, Vernon said he and Kanye once had a “friendly argument” about the word although Kanye won the argument because can you imagine Yeezy losing?

“He said, ‘Have you ever looked up the word humble?’ I was like, ‘Actually I don’t know if I have,'” Vernon explained.

“And he showed me the definition of it, and it’s far more self-demeaning, kind of the problematic Midwestern ‘Sorry!’ mentality, than I realised.”

Despite it beginning as an argument, Vernon actually took something from the conversation, soaking up Yeezy’s infinite wisdom.

“I took a lot out of that conversation,” he said.

“Ultimately, I think it’s great to serve others and everything, but I think there’s a certain point where it’s diminishing returns for the people around you if you’re not showing up and being who you are.”

Kanye and Vernon have worked with each other on a number of occasions with Vernon working on the past three Kanye records.

Bon Iver will release their third record 22, A Million next week, five years after the release of their last. Vernon further explained to the NY Times his obsession with the number 22. It was his sports jersey number as a kid and he always his alarms to the 22 minute of the hour.

So, there you go.
