Both Ocean Alley And Ocean Grove Have Released New Songs Today

Ocean Alley and Ocean Grove – two of Australia’s most popular touring bands, as well as two of its most often confused – have once again blurred the oceanic lines by both releasing new singles on the same day. Both songs can be streamed below, alongside more information about each track.

Ocean Alley’s new single is entitled ‘Tangerine’. It marks the band’s first new music in two years, following the release of their fourth studio album, 2022’s Low Altitude Living. In a press statement, lead vocalist Baden Donegal explained that the song was inspired by a road trip he took with keyboardist Lach Galbraith, as well as their respective wives and pets, across the Nullabor over to Western Australia – as the two families were officially relocating from Byron Bay.

“The long straight roads, the isolation and the different landscapes were intense and amazing,” he said. There was such contrast between the red dirt and crystal blue ocean. Seeing parts of the desert and sunsets on that commute, the sky turning orange – or, ‘Tangerine’ – is what really inspired this song.” An accompanying music video has also been shared for the new single, directed by the band’s longtime collaborator Jamieson Kerr, which can be viewed below.

Ocean Grove, meanwhile, have shared the track ‘Last Dance’. The single is the fourth to be lifted from the Sydney nu-metal band’s upcoming fourth studio album Oddworld, which was announced last month. It follows on from ‘Fly Away in May, ‘My Disaster’ in July and ‘Raindrop’ in August. In a press statement, lead vocalist Dale Tanner described ‘Last Dance as “an apocalyptic symphony of sorts”.

“It grapples with this idea of facing the death moment, whether that be of the planet or a loved one,” he said. “We can be presented with one last opportunity for a loving embrace, and a conscious presence in that confronting reality. It’s the anthem for any listener to find solace and deeper meaning in the inevitable impermanence of everything.” The song’s music video, created by Melbourne collective The AV Club and filmed at Noise Complaint Studios, can be found below.

Ocean Grove – ‘Last Dance’

Both bands will continue to have their distinct musical styles wash over audiences in different parts of Australia later this month. The Alley variety will be found on Saturday, October 19th at Melbourne’s Ability Fest alongside the likes of King Stingray, Bag Raiders and Cub Sport. Grove, meanwhile, will perform at the other end of the country that very same day as part of the Big Pineapple Festival line-up alongside The Amity Affliction, Bliss N Eso, Golden Features, Peking Duk and Tones & I.
