It’s something of a surprise that such a thing hasn’t happened already, but reports suggest plans are afoot to make Brian Wilson‘s illustrious, tempestuous life into a film.
The New York Times reports that the potential biopic is being prepared by independent production company River Road Entertainment, who were also behind The Tree of Life and Fair Game.
In a statement, River Road Entertainment said that the proposed movie would “take an unconventional look at Wilson’s unique musical process as well as his struggles with mental illness, and how he managed to persevere as an artist with the love and support of his wife Melinda.”
River Road has secured Wilson’s life rights for the film, which is said to have snared Oren Moverman (The Messenger) to write the screenplay. No actors have yet been signed up.
Wilson is currently on tour in Canada, and will play shows in the United States in July and August before heading to Europe in September. All this despite rumours earlier in the year that the great songwriter may be about to pack in playing live altogether.
He has also, of course, moved to trample on any prospect of a reunion with the surviving Beach Boys
