Chicago-based five-piece Brigitte Calls Me Baby released their debut album, “The Future Is Our Way Out,” out now via ATO Records. The record is an amalgamation of mid-century pop romanticism and early-millennium indie-rock energy, driven by the hypnotic vocals of its lead singer, Wes Leavins.
The band’s sound is at once sophistication, style, and sincerity—like an elegant time warp, an exploration of modern neuroses. The album was recorded in part at RCA Studio A in Nashville with 9x Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton). Select songs were self-produced by Leavins and bandmates Jack Fluegel (guitar), Trevor Lynch (guitar), Devin Wessels (bass), and Jeremy Benshish (drums).
Brigitte Calls Me Baby-‘The Future Is Our Way Out’
Building upon the praise of their debut EP, “This House is Made of Corners,” heralded by NPR, FLOOD, WXPN, and NME, the new album explores desires, anxieties, and impermanence. From a post-punk rubric on “Fine Dining” to the serene, closing track “Always Be Fine,” and the new-wave inspired “Too Easy,” with Leavins at his most operatic, they show that they’re just getting started.
Since releasing the EP, Brigitte Calls Me Baby has appeared on both Jimmy Kimmel Live and CBS Saturday Morning prior to stopping by NPR’s World Cafe. They’ve shared stages with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, and The Last Dinner Party. Upcoming performances include Lollapalooza on August 3 and a US headlining tour starting September 7.
