Meanjin/Brisbane-based metal act The Brave have exploded back from hiatus with their first track since 2019, dubbed ‘Breaking Out’.
Produced and mixed by Troy Brady, ‘Breaking Out’ is a huge, glitchy slab of metalcore with an soaring, anthemic chorus, with lyrics inspired by a relatable, frustrating time in the life of lead singer, Nate Toussaint.
The Brave – ‘Breaking Out’
“There were a few things happening in my life that were causing me this overwhelming feeling of frustration at the time that ‘Breaking Out’ was being written,” the vocalist explains in a press statement. “As the song started getting fleshed out, I wanted to ensure that feeling was conveyed lyrically. I knew I wanted the song to be quite repetitive, first to get stuck in people’s heads, but also because for me at the time, it was that constant repetition, that Groundhog Day feeling that was wearing me down and burning me out.”
He continued: “We’ve all been there and had those days where you just want to say fuck it, I’m out of here! I’m getting off this mouse wheel that is just going round and round, is doing nothing to get me any further and is just slowly wearing me down…I’m breaking out of here.”
The single comes packing a retro a sci-fi-inspired music video filmed and directed by Colin Jeffs of Ten Of Swords Media (RedHook, Future Static), which you can watch up above.
It comes as The Brave are preparing to fuel up the tour van, supporting In Hearts Wake on tour across January and February of 2025. You can peep those dates down below.
