Brooklyn Park Dedicated To Late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch

New York City’s Palmetto Playground has been renamed Adam Yauch Park in honour of the late Beastie Boy, marking a year since the hip hop legend’s passing. The Brooklyn playground is just a few blocks from Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch‘s childhood home and was reportedly where he learned to ride a bike.

City officials held a renaming ceremony yesterday, with fellow Beastie Adam ‘Ad-Rock’ Horovitz, Yauch’s mother Frances, and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz all speaking at the event. Ad-Rock described Yauch as a brother he got to choose, saying, “I’d like to thank the New York Parks Department and the people of Brooklyn for honoring my friend and brother and recognizing how cool it is to have an Adam Yauch park for other crazy New York kids.”

Frances Yauch unveiled the new plaque for the playground, saying, “Adam made us so proud of him – proud of his achievements, proud of our beautiful daughter-in-law and our beautiful grandchild. And now proud to have this park in his name.”

Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch passed away on 4th May last year aged 47, after a 3-year battle with cancer. As well as being a founding member of the seminal rap group, he was also a film director and human rights activist.
