The Boss AKA Bruce Springsteen has joined the growing list of artists putting a price on their legacy, selling the masters of his back catalogue to Sony for half a billion.
Yep – an Elon Musk-sized payday just landed for the man behind the likes of ‘Dancing In The Dark’, ‘Born In The USA’ and ‘Born To Run’.
Springsteen has been with Sony since the start of his career, but previously had ownership of his material.
That’s recently changed though, with the label taking control of the masters of a whopping 300 songs, 20 studio albums, and 23 live recordings.
Neither Springsteen nor Sony has commented on the deal, but it has a similar flair to that of Neil Young, who sold off 50% of his material at the start of the year, noting that “I want to cover my family and my art.… A good father plans on how to take care of his children.”
Springsteen released his latest LP Letter To You in October last year, showing that despite cashing in his art, he’s not done on the song production line just yet.
