The Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) have announced their performance lineup for the Ninth Annual Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards. It’s yet another showcase of Australia’s hottest emerging talents, featuring Sheppard, Remi, DMA’s, SAFIA, and Meg Mac.
Brisbane outfit Sheppard have spent the last 12 months enjoying a rise that could only be described as meteoric. Exploding onto the scene with their inescapable hit Geronimo, the group have broken numerous records, including the longest-running #1 single for a 100-percent indie release.
Homegrown Melbourne hip-hop talent Remi has had an extraordinary breakout year, garnering major airpay from the likes of Triple J as well as rave reviews for his much anticipated second album, Raw X Infinity, all the while selling out national tours across the country.
Meanwhile, Sydney three-piece DMA’s have been going from strength to strength, capitalising on a well-earned reputation as the next big thing in Australia’s indie scene. On a similar track are electro trio SAFIA, who are still revelling in the buzz generated by their recent support slot for Lorde.
Rounding out the lineup is 23-year-old soul-pop singer-songwriter Meg Mac, who’s currently gearing up to release her debut EP, MEGMAC. The Melbourne native has been turning heads with recent single Roll Up Your Sleeves, a charming and sprawling slice of modern neo-soul balladry.
There’s still plenty more announcements to come from the Ninth Annual Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards, including all the nominations, guest presenters, and more, so stay tuned. The awards are set to kick off Wednesday, 8th October at the Meat Market in North Melbourne.
