Tastemaking music database Hype Machine has compiled its annual Music Blog Zeitgeist, listing the most-blogged about artists of 2014, with Australian acts Chet Faker and Flight Facilities named in the top 50.
Faker, who will set out on an extensive national tour in 2015, was named on the publication’s half-yearly list and has retained his 14th place thanks to his award-winning debut album Built On Glass and the numerous remixes of his singles that have since surfaced. Flight Facilities, whose highly anticipated debut album Down To Earth was released in October this year, came in at number 49 on the list.
Californian singer-songwriter BANKS, soon to be in Australia for Laneway 2015, retained her number one position as the most blogged about artist of 2014. She is followed by electronic musician Caribou, Swedish electronic five-piece Little Dragon, Falls act SBTRKT and Canadian electrofunk duo Chromeo.
Other notables acts named in the top 20 include Jungle, London Grammar, Mac DeMarco, Glass Animals and Drake – all of whom are soon to be in Australia for various festival slots and tours.
The annual list is compiled by tracking the coverage of tracks and artists on over 820 of the world’s most influential blogs. Last year, Australia’s Jagwar Ma, Flume, Empire of the Sun, Say Lou Lou and Cut Copy all cracked the top 50.
