Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino has unveiled the first new song from his forthcoming album Awaken, My Love!.
It’s a six-minute epic called Me And Your Mama, and wow, was it worth the wait.
Kicking off with twinkling samples, the track burns slowly until a heavy funk riff takes off and moves into some of the most passionate, emotive vocals we’ve ever heard from Gambino, as he explores his full range.
Me And Your Mama was first debuted by Glover at Bonnaroo Festival in 2015, and if the masterpiece is anything to go by, Childish Gambino’s follow-up to his 2013 record Because the Internet is going to be an veritable treasure trove of musical goodness.
Me And Your Mama seems to be in keeping with how his Pharos performances earlier this year were described, with people taking to social media to call it funk/jazz/futuristic ’80s pop, with a full band vibe, and very little rapping.
