Cosmo’s Midnight are renowned for their blockbuster collabs, and they’ve just hit us with a freshie to cap off 2023. The Sydney electronic duo have returned with a summer-ready new dancefloor jam dubbed ‘Borrowed Time’, featuring Melbourne singer-songwriter and recent ARIA-winner, Forest Claudette.
Featuring euphoric synths and infectious rhythms, ‘Borrowed Time’ is a song all about taking an optimistic view on a long-distance relationship.
Cosmo’s Midnight – ‘Borrowed Time’ Ft. Forest Claudette
“In a way, ‘Borrowed Time’ started out early last year, we were in our own session doing our own thing and Forest Claudette was next door doing their own thing,” Cosmo’s Midnight explained in a statement about the new single.
“Suddenly they bust down the door without warning and tracked down some insane, one take vocals on a demo we were mid-writing. We were just blown away in that moment and knew we were gonna write a song together.”
The pair continued: “We ended up meeting in proper backstage at Ruel’s album tour and ended up talking real deep real quick, about long distance relationships and the struggles that come with them. They ended up coming over to our house and tracked the vocals in our kitchen. Although they haven’t sung over our style of music before, Forest glides over this track with their effortless melodic and lyrical flow, as well as knack for storytelling and imagery, it was such a pleasure to work with this beautiful human.”
While in their own statement, Forest Claudette explained that the song “tells the story of how I met my partner and the long-distance relationship that has followed”.
“I’m so grateful to Pat and Cosmo for bringing me into their creative world,” they added. “It was a really warm and enjoyable collaboration, a nice long walk in the sun, writing from their home studio and learning tricks on their toy switchblade. Listening back, I’m really proud of this record.”
The tune follows on from Cosmo’s Midnight’s most recent single, the 80’s disco sample flipping ‘Gimme Some More’, as well as previous collabs with the likes of Tkay Maidza, K-Pop royalty BTS and more.
