Courtney Love Says Hole Will Reunite If New Music Is Written

Despite previous comments that apparently nixed a Hole reunion entirely, Courtney Love has now indicated that the beloved ’90s alternative rock outfit could return, provided they pen some new material. Speaking recently in an interview, Love remained adamant that she would not get on “the oldies circuit.”

“It’s more important for me to act right now than to play rock ‘n’ roll,” love told Paper magazine, referring to her upcoming role on FX’s Sons of Anarchy. “Me and [bandmates] Melissa and Patty and Eric have rehearsed a few times. In order to pull that off, we’d have to make some music that’s relevant to now, and we’d have to get a modern producer,” Love, who recently toured Australia as a solo artist, continued.

“I’m not going to do the oldies circuit,” the rocker insisted. “My relationships with Melissa, Patty and Eric are all great. At this point in my life, no one is my enemy. Any grudges or issues with that past? I’m done with it.” Love previously told interviewers that she refuses to reunite Hole to rehash past material.

“I don’t want to get on the oldies circuit,” Love told The Sunday Times last month. “I don’t need to do that for money. I want to put out music that is relevant today. [Being] one of the last chicks in a rock ‘n’ roll band is a weird place to be. It’s scary not to be selling out.” In the interview, Love similarly insisted that she would instead be concentrating on acting, recording solo music, and writing her memoir.

Speaking about her memoir to Paper, Love called it “a disaster” and “a nightmare”, adding, “I never wanted to write a book in my entire life. It just sort of happened. And I have a co-writer, but it’s just not working. One of my rules about the book is that it has to stop in 2006. What happens from 2006 on in the book is my personal business. I’ve been discreet from that time on, and I want to keep it that way.”

In the meantime, fans continue to hold out hope for a Hole reunion. Rumours first sparked late last year after Love posted a photo of herself with founding guitarist Eric Erlandson captioned, “2014 going to be a very interesting year,” before confirming that the band had been busy rehearsing together.

However, some band members were apparently unhappy with the rumours, with Love later insisting that no reunion was in the works. “We may have made out but there is no talk of marriage,” she told The Telegraph. “It’s very frail, nothing might happen, and now the band are all flipping out with me.”
