Damon Albarn, best known for his projects Blur and Gorillaz, and for snubbing Australia in a recent festival tour fiasco, announced Wednesday, 11th December that his first-ever solo album will arrive some time in 2014.
The news came in the form of a 21-second YouTube video, with little to no detail. The 20-year music veteran has however revealed some details of the record in interviews earlier in the year. In a May interview with Rolling Stone, in which Albarn also revealed he no longer hates Oasis, the Blur frontman described his solo venture as “sort of folk soul.”
Albarn also spoke about working with XL Records chief Richard Russell, who he previously teamed up with on soul-man Bobby Womack‘s killer 2012 record, The Bravest Man in the Universe. “Making a solo record is can be such a disaster, so I thought if we’re going to make a record with my name on it, I should get someone to really produce it,” said Albarn. “Richard does the kind of rhythmic side of it and I do everything else.”
