Damon Albarn Says Blur is Done for Now – “It’s Too Much for Me”

It looks as if Blur‘s recent reunion has been short-lived. Frontman Damon Albarn has confirmed that, following their recent 2023 reunion album and tour dates (which sadly did not include any action here in Australia) he’s now putting the band back on hiatus.

Speaking with French publication Les Inrockuptibles, the English singer-songwriter said the project is once again on ice.

Blur – ‘The Narcissist’

“It is time to wrap up this campaign. It’s too much for me,” he confessed. “It was the right thing to do and an immense honour to play these songs again, spend time with these guys, make an album, blah-blah-blah”.

He then went on to clarify: “I’m not saying I won’t do it again, it was a beautiful success, but I’m not dwelling on the past”.

He also didn’t seem too stoked on the band’s latest album, The Ballad Of Darren, shrugging it off by saying, “I haven’t listened to it again”.

It seems Albarn will now be switching his attention to different projects, both new and more familiar. First up, he’ll be working on an “opera which will be presented in Paris next year”. Then, once that’s in the can, he’ll be headed off to India with Jamie Hewlett “to start working on a new Gorillaz album”.

So it’s bad news for Blur fans, good news for Gorillaz fans then.
