Damon Albarn is pro Kanye West.
In an interview with longtime friend and collaborator Kano, the Blur/Gorillaz frontman was on the subject of his own low profile on social media when he was asked if someone like Kanye West should “take a more Damon approach” (presumably in light of Yeezy’s reputation for being a bit cray cray in the Twittersphere).
“Well, I’ve known Kanye since he first arrived. Some of his ideas are brilliant, some of them are really bad, but that doesn’t matter,” Albarn responded. “He’s interesting, definitely. I’d rather people were like that than just really safe.”
Of his own social media use, Albarn admits, “The thing about social media is that it draws you into what you are at that moment and doesn’t let you go, especially when people respond to it. That’s why I stay away from it because I don’t want to be restricted by something I said last night when I was drunk.”
So, what would Albarn do in an alternate universe if he was managing old Yeezy?
“If I somehow ended up managing Kanye West, fucking hell, I’d definitely start with a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake. Then I’d take it from there.”
Kano and Albarn, who recently collaborated on Kano’s new album Made In The Manor, also discussed Kanye’s latest record, The Life Of Pablo, something the latter didn’t even know had come out yet because of its present home on Tidal.
“He’s put it on Tidal, has he?” he responded. “That’s probably not the best place for it.”
