Dan Sultan has shared details of a large-scale and free Sydney show, where he will perform in the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Saturday, March 8th. It will mark the largest headlining show of Sultan’s near-20-year career, with a capacity of up to 6,000 people. Sultan had previously teased the announcement of the show on his social media, as well as to fans that saw him perform at this year’s Blak Powerhouse at Sydney’s Manning House on Invasion Day (January 26th).
“We’ve got a big show coming up in March,” he said at the end of his performance, before joking: “Please come, and bring a thousand of your closest friends.” Sultan will be joined by his current supergroup backing band for the performance: The Preatures‘ Jack Moffitt, The Delta Riggs‘ Michael Tramonte and Velvet Trip‘s Zeppelin Hamilton and Clayton Allen.

In a press statement announcing the show, Michael Hutchings – the Head of First Nations Programming at the Sydney Opera House – described Sultan as “an absolute legend of Australian music”. “This gig continues the legacy of Tubowgule, also known as Bennelong Point, where the Opera House now stands,” he said.
“People have gathered in this place for tens of thousands of years to share stories, and Dan is a modern storyteller of epic proportions. It’s a true delight to have him performing on the Forecourt in a free event where people from all walks of life can witness the magic of one of Australia’s finest live acts.”
Joining Sultan and his band as opener for the show will be Jem Cassar-Daley. The Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung singer-songwriter released three new singles throughout 2024: ‘Space Between’, ‘Texas Ain’t That Far, Is It Dear?’ and ‘Big Container’. Both artists are returning to the Opera House: Sultan first performed there in 2010 with the surviving members of INXS, playing ‘Keep On Walking’ as part of that year’s ARIA Awards ceremony, while Cassar-Daley performed there in 2024 with her father, Troy, as part of the Generations & Dynasties concert series.
Entry to the show is free of charge; however, tickets must be registered for in advance, with a limit of six tickets per transaction. Registrations will commence from 9am AEST on Thursday, February 6th via the official Sydney Opera House website.
