Sydney Opera House Announce ‘Generations & Dynasties’ Concert Series

The Sydney Opera House have announced a trio of intimate performances from Indigenous musical families to take place across late April and early May 2024, entitled Generations & Dynasties. Each evening will focus on conversation and performances from three different families: The Jarretts, the Briscoes and the Cassar-Daleys. A full itinerary for the concert series can be found below.

In a press statement, Michael Hutchings – the Opera House’s Head of First Nations programming – described Generations & Dynasties as “an aspirational series” of events, with each “aiming to bring together people of all walks of life to celebrate creativity and culture”. “Our line-up of artists for the inaugural series defies genre, and demonstrates the rise of contemporary First Nations music to the force that we see reflected in the industry today,” he said.

“We are incredibly proud to honour these creative trailblazing families and give space to thoughtful and challenging conversations alongside joyful ones, in a life-affirming journey through storytelling and song.”

The first event will feature Will Jarrett, a Gumbaynggirr man who previously performed under the moniker of Wire MC as a hip-hop artist, as well as his sons Tasman Keith and Kapital J. Jarrett and Keith released a collaborative single in late 2023, entitled ‘Too Many Reds’.

It will be followed by an evening with Kuku Yalanji family the Briscoe sisters – Deline, Naurita and Merindi – who will be joined on-stage by their daughters. The series will conclude with an evening with Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man Troy Cassar-Daley and his daughter Jem, with both singer-songwriters having released new singles this month – ‘Let’s Ride’ and ‘Space Between’, respectively.

All three events will take place in the Utzon Room of the Opera House, with Hutchings hosting the Jarrett and Cassar-Daley evenings and Jess Beck hosting the Briscoe evening. Tickets for each evening are $25, and are available from 9am local time tomorrow (March 1).
