David Bowie‘s family has thanked fans for the outpouring of love which has followed the late musician’s death. The family has also welcomed the large number of Bowie tribute events which are taking place around the world.
In a statement posted to Facebook, Bowie’s family say:
THANK YOU
The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend.
They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times.
We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world.
However, it is important to note that while the concerts and tributes planned for the coming weeks are all welcome, none are official memorials organized or endorsed by the family.
Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David’s music, we welcome everyone’s celebration of his life as they see fit.
Bowie’s family has largely remained quiet since the musician’s death, with Bowie’s son Duncan Jones sharing a photo of him and his dad via Twitter…

Bowie’s body was reportedly cremated in New York earlier this week, with no family or friends present, as per his wishes.
Prior to news of Bowie’s cremation, his longtime producer Tony Visconti told Rolling Stone that the singer was planning another album after his latest and final effort, Blackstar.
Visconti says Bowie had written and demoed five new songs shortly before his passing, and was keen to return to the studio.
“And I was thrilled, and I thought, and he thought, that he’d have a few months, at least,” Visconti said. “Obviously, if he’s excited about doing his next album, he must’ve thought he had a few more months. So the end must’ve been very rapid. I’m not privy to it.”
A large number of Bowie tribute events have popped up around Australia since the musician’s death — catch a list of all the best ones right here.
