What started off as a brief, unnamed track in a Spotify playlist has absolutely snowballed as The xx progress in leaps and bounds towards their forthcoming new album.
Now it looks as though the title of the release and the tracklist contained within has leaked, strongly suggesting that an official announcement, or straight-up release, is coming soon.
The leak came from Reddit (where else?) after one savvy user noticed that music discovery app Shazam boasts a list of 12 new The xx songs. The list does have a title, I See You, which is now a strong contender for the name of the group’s new album.
As Stereogum points out, some of the tracks have actually been Ahazamed a number of times, suggesting that they’ve been spread fairly far and wide in a short space of time, considering they’ve not been even been released.
Another fun fact — one of the songs featured in the tracklist, Performance, was actually performed live by the band all the way back in 2014, and you can catch footage of it below.
The xx have announced they’ll be doing an interview and performance with the BBC’s Annie Mac this Thursday, so all signs seem to point to us getting more answers then.
The xx’s recent (and nameless) Spotify track was quickly followed by a second, and today has been followed by a third, which you can check out below alongside the ‘leaked’ tracklist for I See You.
