Dionne Warwick Speaks Out Against Sexual Lyrics in Modern Pop Music

Music legend Dionne Warwick has recently voiced her concerns about the overtly sexual themes prevalent in today’s pop music. In a candid interview with Us Weekly, the 83-year-old icon shared her thoughts on the subject, expressing surprise and disappointment at the current state of the industry.

Warwick was particularly critical of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for allowing such content. “I think it’s horrible, first of all, that the FCC allows it,” she remarked. “I am really surprised.”

As a grandmother, Warwick is concerned about the impact of explicit lyrics on younger generations. “I have children, I have grand babies, and I don’t want (those) words getting into their ears,” she added.

The “Walk On By” hitmaker has not shied away from addressing this issue directly with contemporary artists, including a notable conversation with rapper Snoop Dogg. “We talked for quite a while,” she recounted. “I met with quite a few of them and just let them know, ‘Not only are you gonna grow up but your ears are too, and eventually your children’s ears are gonna hear this. Is that really what you want them to listen to?'”

Warwick’s message to these artists was clear: to consider their words more carefully. “I told them, ‘Just stop and think before you speak,'” she said. Her efforts seem to have made an impact, as she noted a shift in attitude among some of the musicians she spoke with. “They calmed down so very much after I had those meetings with them so they began to realize maybe she knows what she’s talking about,” Warwick observed.

Warwick’s commitment to addressing this issue underscores her ongoing influence and dedication to shaping the music industry’s landscape for the better.
