First Wave Of Australians Announced For SXSW 2015

South by Southwest Music Festival and Conference has announced the first wave of Australian acts for 2015 that will be reppin’ Oz music in Austin, Texas. The initial announcement includes Angus & Julia Stone, Ball Park Music, Bloods, and Courtney Barnett.

’80s mainstays The Church will also be at SXSW 2015, being interviewed as part of SXSW’s seminars and keynotes. Next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the Canberran band, who recently released their 21st studio album Further/Deeper.

SXSW Australian/NZ representative Phil Tripp says he hopes to increase last year’s tally of 50 Australian artists, playing SXSW, to 70 in 2015. “We have a history of launching Australian talent through our showcases,” said Tripp. “[Offering] exposure to music executives and over 1000 media attending looking for the Next New Thing.”

More than 200 musical acts have already been announced for SXSW 2015, which will take place from Tuesday, 17th March 17 to Sunday, 22nd March. The Aussie contingent will join high-profile acts like Scott Weiland and Carl Barat on the lineup. SXSW plans to showcase up to 2000 artists in 2015, performing across more than 100 venues.
