Flaming Lips Frontman Wayne Coyne’s Fans React To Instagram Suspension

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has been separated from his beloved Instagram account for posting material in violation of Instagram’s content rules. The famed frontman had previously been an avid and prolific user of the social media service, posting copious images from concerts and events.

Coyne has since created a new Instagram account and returned to inundating his fans with photographic dispatches from concerts, backstage areas, recording studios, rehearsal spaces, and art galleries. Coyne fans believe it was a photo from one such art gallery that got the esteemed singer booted from Instagram.

The social media service itself does not specify the content that gets its users removed from the site, but Coyne had recently posted pictures from “The Womb” art gallery, a show themed around human birth. Readers can see the picture in question below.

The suspension of Coyne’s account means the deletion of the wealth of exclusive content available only on his account. The collection totalled 1227 photos, and included behind-the-scenes images of upcoming Flaming Lips projects, rare band shots, posters spanning the Lips’ 30-year career, and shots with other musicians including, Patrick Carney, Jack White, and Kevin Parker.

Coyne fans have now initiated a petition to bring Coyne’s original account back, as was done with other celebrities who violated the Instagram terms of use, such as Tyler, the Creator, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Heidi Klum, and Miranda Kerr.
