Fresh from announcing their rebirth a few days ago, Trent Reznor and his Nine Inch Nails comrades have announced their return to the stage in late July as headliners of Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival. The band will headline the first night of the festival in Niigata, Japan on Friday, 26th July with Bjork and The xx locked in to own the main stage the following night.
Recent Grammy winners Fun. are also destined to be a hit, as are Yo La Tengo and DJ Shadow, both popular drawcards at previous editions of the festival. Local heroes Tame Impala will fly the Australian flag, while former Ramones member CJ Ramone is also on the bill.
Fuji Rock is known as a good barometer of acts likely to perform at Splendour In The Grass in Byron Bay, given both festivals generally take place on the last weekend of July and the close proximity of Japan to Australia. For example, Coldplay headlined Fuji Rock in 2011 before flying over to close Splendour In The Grass a day or two later. So who knows? A couple of these acts could be visiting our shores around that time as well.
Fuji Rock takes place at the Naeba Ski Resort, Niigata, Japan from 26th-28th July. More information on the festival can be found at its official website.
