Ecclesiastes metal outfit Ghost are reportedly set to replace current frontman Papa Emeritus II, with one of the band’s Nameless Ghouls claiming the “asshole” singer has not been working out and that the band are considering a collaboration with Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst.
The band’s original lead singer — Papa Emeritus — was replaced by Papa Emeritus II ahead of the release of the group’s second album, Infestissumam, late last year, though it was believed that the successor was merely the same person now playing a new character and donning a new outfit.
“There will definitely be a third, we’re looking into the options right now,” a band member recently told TeamRock at Sonisphere Finland. “We’re trying to work out who’s the best candidate. Number II is a real asshole so we’re looking for someone with a different approach to things. He still has to be an entertainer, but we’re narrowing down the contenders,” he added, tongue firmly in cheek.
The Ghoul also explained that groundwork on a new studio project has been laid, saying, “We have some track titles figured out, and we know the album title too, as well as thematically where we’re heading. Expect some more obscure covers – obviously that’s become part of our schtick.”
“We’ve decided which ones already too,” he added. The band’s last release, If You Have Ghost, was an EP of covers and a live recording produced by Dave Grohl, which included a rendition of Roky Erickson‘s If You Have Ghosts, which the band performed at Music Feeds Studio (see below).
Discussing potential collabs for the new project, the Ghoul joked, “Perhaps something collaborative with Conchita Wurst might be interesting. It’s not like you’d notice her beard, being cloaked and all!” Perhaps fans should prepare themselves for the papal inauguration of Conchita Emeritus I?
