Green Day Start Recording Ninth Studio Album

Green Day frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, announced via Twitter yesterday that the punk rockers have started recording their ninth studio album.

@BJAofficial: “Happy Valantine’s day! Officially started recording the new record today. It’s FUCK TIME!!!!”

The final sentence refers to It’s Fuck Time, a song originally intended for the groups 60s-influenced side-project, Foxboro Hot Tubs, but which has also been performed by Green Day.

The band debuted their new material at a secret Halloween concert in New York last year, which saw 300 fans pack out Webster Hall and was recorded for a documentary about the group’s creative process.

Clad in fancy dress, they performed a set that consisted of around half new material, including singles Wow, That’s Loud and Make Out Party.

Rolling Stone described the new tracks as a departure from their politically-charged previous efforts.

The trios last album, 21st Century Breakdown, was released in 2009.
