Green Day Just Got Their Own Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Green Day have officially made it to the ~boulevard of broken dreams~ (or, er, sidewalks). The punk rock legends have just been honoured with their very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Yep, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool are now immortalised in pavement alongside movie stars and music royalty forevermore.

The ceremony went down like a goon bag in your teens: getting equal parts chaotic, nostalgic, and emotional. The trio, still riding high off the 30th anniversary of Dookie (yes, we’re all ancient now) and their recent Aussie stadium tour with AFI, accepted the honour with classic Green Day charm — delivering plenty of heart, humour, and healthy dose of punk attitude in their acceptance speech.

“This star’s for the weird kids”

“This star’s for the weird kids,” Billie Joe told the crowd, “the ones who wore eyeliner in gym class, who started garage bands instead of doing homework, who turned American Idiot into a goddamn national anthem.”

It’s a major full-circle moment for a band who started out playing at 924 Gilman Street to a handful of snotty teens, now becoming quite literally part of Hollywood history. From basement punk shows to Broadway musicals to Grammy wins, it’s safe to say Green Day have turned rebellion into a career — and now they’ve got a shiny piece of sidewalk real estate to prove it.

Fans turned out in droves (some dressed in Nimrod-era cosplay, #bless), chanting lyrics, crying, and possibly getting sunburnt just to witness the moment. One fan summed it up perfectly: “Green Day got me through middle school. Now they’ve got a star. I’ve never been more proud of three dudes yelling about boredom.”

So here’s to Green Day. Hollywood may be full of stars, but only one of them can play ‘Brain Stew’ with their teeth.
