Hamilton, the most commercially and critically successful new musical of its era, will return to Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in October.
All scheduled performances of Hamilton from 25th June–17th October were cancelled, with ticket holders receiving refunds. But the show will be back on Tuesday, 19th October. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster Australia.
Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton has been an uncanny global success. Created by playwright and performer Lin-Manuel Miranda—who previously created In the Heights—Hamilton is based on the the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, as told in Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography, Alexander Hamilton.
Hamilton‘s stint at the Lyric Theatre is also its Australian premiere. It launched on 27th March, 2021 and ran eight shows a week, which tended to sell out in a hurry. If all goes to plan, Hamilton will remain in Sydney until Sunday, 27th February. It will then relocate to Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne, where performances will commence in March.
Hamilton has won every award you can think of since launching in 2015, including multiple Tonys, Emmys, Laurence Olivier Awards and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Full details on the COVID-safe plan for Hamilton‘s return to the Lyric Theatre on 19th October are to come.
