The trio recently admitted that they wrote the song to appease their American label, referring to the track as “the least alt-J song ever”. That statement has now been proven correct, with the band seemingly trying to follow the twangy American rock formula of bands like The Black Keys and Kings Of Leon.
Left Hand Free (below) couples the warmth of southern rock with Joe Newman‘s equally twangy vocals, which stagger as the track builds to its anthemic chorus. Whilst it’s certainly “the least alt-J song ever”, it holds onto some of the group’s typically snarly melodies.
This Is All Yours, which follows alt-J’s 2012 album An Awesome Wave, is set for release on 19th September.
