This year Jack White has already featured on Beyonce’s 2016 LP Lemonade and starred in The Dead Weather’s music video for Impossible Winner.
However, there’s been one thing conspicuously missing from The White Stripes’ frontman; new music. Now, White has released his first new composition of 2016, so to speak.
He’s written the theme song for NBC’s new variety show Maya & Marty – hosted by Maya Rudolph and Martin Short. Recorded with a bunch of Third Man Records-signed artists, the new theme is a funkalicious, bluesy effort and is an impressive first go at TV theme song composition by White.
According to Third Man Records, the song features Dean Fertita, Lillie Mae Rische, Dominic Davis, Fats Kaplin with Jack White himself on drums.
Maya & Marty is set to be based on the format of Saturday Night Live, where both Rudolph and Short have previously featured. It will also feature sketches, music and a heap of special guests.
