Hiatus Kaiyote Frontwoman Nai Palm Features On Drake’s New Album ‘Scorpion’

It turns out there’s an Aussie connection in Drake‘s record-breaking new album Scorpion, because it features the talents of Hiatus Kaiyote frontwoman Nai Palm.

The singer-songwriter can be heard singing a version of Aaliyah’s classic track ‘More Than A Woman’ on the Scorpion cut ‘Is There More’ (below), but it’s not actually the first time she’s appeared on a Drake release.

Speaking with Complex, Nai Palm said the ‘Is There More’ collaboration “just happened naturally”, but she didn’t get to hear the final product until the very last minute.

“It was actually an additional afterthought,” she said.

“He sent me a variety of different things to write to and I threw that in the mix last minute. I also felt it was good to school the next generation on the classics just in case they missed the timelessness of Aaliyah (Missy Elliott, Timbaland), all that good shit I was blessed to be raised on as a ’90s baby.

“I actually heard it well after the rest of the world as I’m up in the rainforest recording a new album with Hiatus Kaiyote and the reception is basically nonexistent. So yeah, I’d get random notifications about it, but didn’t have strong enough reception to play it until way later.”

Nai Palm said she’d been working with Drake since March, and had recorded “maybe five songs all up” in that time.

Hiatus Kaiyote’s song ‘Building A Ladder’ was previously featured on ‘Free Smoke’, the opening track from Drake’s 2016 playlist project More Life. Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s recent joint album Everything Is Love also sampled the band’s song ‘The World It Softly Lulls’ on the cut ‘713’.
