HighSchool have announced that they will release their second EP, entitled Accelerator, on Friday April 19th via [PIAS]. To coincide with the EP’s announcement, the Melbourne-born and London-based post-punk duo have shared a new track from the five-track collection entitled ‘Doesn’t Matter’. In a press statement, the duo – composed of Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott – explained that their new single dealt with “unrequited love”.
“It’s about your beloved being unaware or uncaring of your affection and deep desire for them,” they wrote. “It’s about longing, and the places your imagination takes you when you yearn for someone.” The band have also shared a new music video for the track, directed by Henry Gosper with production handled by HighSchool themselves.
“The video was shot over two days at three separate locations in and around the outskirts of Melbourne,” the band wrote. “We were trying to capture a modern Southern Gothic atmosphere with an Australian flair, taking inspiration from classic Australian Gothic literature and film as well as crime stoppers adverts and TV programs like Highway Patrol.”
HighSchool – ‘Doesn’t Matter’
In addition to the freshly-released ‘Doesn’t Matter’, Accelerator will also feature the band’s song ‘August 19’, which was released in December of 2023. The EP serves as the official follow-up to their debut EP Forever At Last, which was released in November of 2021 via Dalliance Recordings.
Fans will get a preview of new material from HighSchool at their headlining Australian shows this week: The duo will play at Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel on Thursday February 29th, followed by a show at The Night Cat in Melbourne on Saturday March 2nd.
