Since iconic frontman Brian Johnson was forced to pull out of ACDC‘s remaining world tour dates, speculation has been spreading like The Jack about who exactly the rock titans might recruit to replace him.
The Aussie veterans have vowed to keep the rock n’ roll train rolling – at least til the end of their Rock Or Bust tour – with a guest singer at the helm, and they’ve just had a very unexpected volunteer for the top job.
Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist of The Hives, who just finished supporting Acca Dacca on the Aussie leg of their world tour, has officially thrown his hat in the ring.
“Very sad to hear Brian Johnson can’t do a bunch of AC/DC shows due to health problems. That man is a legend. I would like offer my sincerest well wishes and get wells. And if any help is needed, I put my foot forward and say: HERE I AM!”
He continued: “I have many many years of experience rocking the world’s biggest stages and, according to others, I am the greatest frontman in rock, plus judging from the reaction in Australia, your crowd already seems to really like me. Plus, I have already been singing those songs since I was six years old. So, AC/DC, please consider my application!”
Almqvist’s stage presence has often been compared to that of Mick Jagger, but it’s just as hard to imagine Jagger fronting Acca Dacca as it is to imagine the Hate To Say I Told You So singer convincingly belting out Whole Lotta Rosie.
That’s not to say it couldn’t work though.
Maybe the ‘Dacca should chuck a Slash and get a whole bunch of hotshot vocalists to guest on different songs?
Either way, we’ll be on the edge of our seats to see whether AC/DC decide to Play Ball with Almqvist, or whether his job application gets Shot Down In Flames.
