Hobart’s Lennon Wells Drop Strut-Worthy New Single ‘Baddie’, Announce Secret Warehouse Parties

Hobart rock’n’roll rascals Lennon Wells are back in boss mode with their brand new single ‘Baddie’ — a funky, feel-good strutter of a track that oozes confidence, charm and main character energy.

The new tune finds frontman Ben Wells channelling his inner rock deity, backed by slick bass, sharp guitars and gospel-tinged harmonies courtesy of Tassie legends The DK Effect. Produced by the band alongside Alistair Campbell and mixed by Andrew Hassler (of A. Swayze & The Ghosts fame), ‘Baddie’ is equal parts tongue-in-cheek and unapologetically self-assured.

Lennon Wells – ‘Baddie’

“‘Baddie’ is about feeling like king shit and being unapologetic for it,” Wells explains. “Having the strut to back it up. There’s this weird stigma in Australia about feeling good about yourself, like tall poppy syndrome. ‘Baddie’ is about wearing that feeling with pride. In this economy, if you still manage to back yourself, that’s a talent.”

And while the swagger’s real, so is the heart. Behind the rockstar bravado, Lennon Wells are a band grounded by family — with several members recently becoming dads, and Ben’s daughter Jude regularly stealing the limelight at festivals and studio sessions. “She’s got more stage presence than me half a bottle of prosecco deep,” he jokes.

“We want to be the best rock ‘n’ roll band in Hobart — and the best dads we can be. I’m not chasing this like it’s the endgame anymore. What matters is the fun we’re having, and that our kids grow up knowing how powerful music can be.”

Alongside the single comes a delightfully lo-fi video starring Lee Power — local artist, author, and Hobart icon — dancing like nobody’s watching through empty city streets. Directed by Harrison Dwyer (Hotwax Creative) and Wells himself, the clip captures the essence of ‘Baddie’: self-celebration with a heavy dash of rock’n’roll flair.

The band are also infamous for their secret Hobart warehouse parties, and they’ve got two freshies locked in for late July. Past shows have seen 300+ punters packing into DIY spaces, dancing their feet off, and raving about it for weeks after. Details are hush-hush for now, but you can save the dates down below.

Lennon Wells’ resume already includes supports for Jet, The Murlocs, Slowly Slowly and The Jungle Giants, plus festival slots at Party in the Paddock and Good Gumnuts. Their track ‘Slowly Dying’ even snuck onto a Netflix series.

And did we mention Wells also owns Grinners Dive Bar, Hobart’s favourite post-gig hangout? Home of the country’s best margarita (according to You Am I’s Tim Rogers), the occasional Jet cameo, and one prosecco for Kumar from Harold & Kumar. We’re not kidding.
